Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy - indications and live cases

Renowned experts Dr. Erika Mendoza and Dr. Joseph A. Gracé shared the latest advances in ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy. They provided detailed insights into the indications for this treatment and demonstrated practical techniques through live sessions with three patients.

The event covered strategies for patient selection for foam treatment, straightforward foam sclerotherapy procedures, and methods for addressing incompetent perforator veins. Participants gained valuable experience in managing transtibial perforator veins, enhancing their skills and advancing their practice.

Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy of the following situations: 

  • Recurrent varicose vein after high ligation and stripping
  • Recurrent perforating vein at the thigh after high ligation and stripping
  • Transtibial perforating vein 

Each case was first investigated with ultrasound and comprehensive explanation, then the procedure was performed. 

Manufacturing of "Dry" 3% Foam was presented.

Board certified and registered as a specialist in the general medical practice category of the Australian Health Providers Regulation Agency (AHPRA) since 1988. Member of the Australian Medical Association since 1989, with proof of good standing and of eminent repute.

As a vascular interventionist, Dr Joseph Grace has a particular interest in treating venous disorders; predominantly varicose veins, of all severities, affecting the lower limbs. He currently offers a full range of treatment options to his patients at the North Shore Medical Group in Sydney, and has done so since 1996. He was one of two physicians to pass the inaugural exams of the Australasian College of Phlebology to achieve the Post-graduate Diploma of Phlebology, being awarded fellowship status in 2004. He was voted in as a member of the board of directors in 2018-2022.

Mr. Mohamed Omar Elfarok is a consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon who specializes in advanced endovascular and open surgery for critical limb ischemia and diabetic atherosclerotic disease. He also has extensive experience in complex endovascular surgery for aortic aneurysms and lower extremity occlusive disease, as well as hybrid surgical techniques for PVD, varicose veins, and dialysis access.

Mr. Mohamed Omar Elfarok earned his undergraduate degree at Ain Shams University 1983. He completed his postgraduate vascular surgery training at west midland vascular rotation in UK . and he obtained fellowship of the Royal college of Surgeons of England 1994 and Royal college of Edinburgh same year After completing his training, he joined the General Organization of Teaching hospitals and Institutes in Cairo Egypt GOTHI.

Mr. Mohamed Omar Elfarok research interests include surgical education, simulation, course design, and milestone skill training. He has written numerous research publications and given many presentations on his work. He is also an Examiner of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
